Lake Tahoe

After leaving Hwy 395, we travelled over the scenic mountain pass climbing to the tops of mountains and looking down on vast valleys below as we made our way to stunning Lake Tahoe.  This lake, the tenth deepest in the world is pristine and as we entered town the first signs were for mandatory watercraft inspections.  Everything gets checked before you can go on the lake and no 2 stroke engines are allowed.  At Emerald Bay the water was the colour of its name and there were many families enjoying the area with full campgrounds and lodges.  We rode the gondola up to Heavenly Ski Field, a  2000ft climb to the observation deck with stunning views out over the lake, mountains and valleys and supposedly an idea of what heaven may look like (according to their slogan).  Then we climbed on the chair lift for the remaining 1000ft ascent to the top elevation of 9500 ft.  The air was cool and my toes froze in my jandals as we came back down.  We had fun at tenpin bowling later in the day and then enjoyed the lake edge with its pebbly, pumice type sand.  It was nice to have a little break here for a few days.
